Montana City Scholastic
Fourteen scholastic players braved the season’s first storm to compete in the first Montana City Scholastic held September 28. The group played in two sections. Six players entered the more challenging “Giants” section while the second section (‘Pioneers”) had eight players.
Among the “Giants”, Paul Harmon and Royal Winston each turned in 4-game win streaks but tie-breaks favor the player who is last to suffer defeat. Paul had the edge for first place though it took three tie-breaks to make the decision. Clara Harmon’s three points were good for third place.
Laurissa Royal and Hunter Heinitz led the “Pioneers” with 3.5 points. Again, tie-breaks favored the player staying in the win column longest giving Laurissa the edge over Hunter. Dahlia Royal, Sam Harmon, and Bryn Hinckley finished 3-4-5 with 3.0 scores.
The excellent playing site was generously provided at no charge by the Montana City Fire Department. Thanks to Dianna Harmon for organization and promotion of the event. Dan McCourt and Murry Strong shared directing duties.
